Children's Advocacy Center Opens Satalite Facility in Gentry!
The Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce is happy to welcome the Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County to Western Benton County and the chamber community! The Childrens Advocacy Center provides a “comprehensive array of services to children and their families who have been alleged to have experienced child abuse and/or trauma; these services range from advocacy support, forensic interview, mental health counseling, medical examinations, as well as community education” says Brooke Boles, Director of Development.
The Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County was founded in January of 2000 as an 870 sq ft facility to do just that and has since expanded seven times to further meet the needs of our community. It is now furthering its mission by opening a satellite facility in Gentry, AR to take the services to the children living in the western side of our community. According to Brooke “The CAC was founded to ensure that children who had experienced abuse could receive comprehensive services under one roof where they were the center of the process. This way, the professionals could come to them to help them tell their story in a neutral, child friendly facility and where they could be heard and connected to resources to help them heal. Those involved in the investigative process could receive what they need to complete their part of the investigation without duplicating services and therefore further traumatizing the child and their family”.
The Executive Director, Natalie Tibbs has been in her role for the past five years, but has been with the organization for fourteen years. Natalie was hired originally to be a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner as she holds licensure as a registered nurse. She was in the role of advocate while she obtained the necessary training to perform sexual assault examinations on pediatrics, adolescents and adults. The founders, David and Beverly Engle, retired 5 years ago.
The CAC’s current expansion through the construction of a satellite facility opened its doors on November 2nd, 2020. It is expected that 50 children may be served by the end of the year with an approximation of 300 in its first full year. The CAC intends to further its reach of empowering ALL children to find their voice as well as provide more community education and awareness to eliminate abuse from even occurring in the first place. Our vision is that our community can be one that places a high priority on a child’s safety – both physically and emotionally and we can empower a community to eliminate child abuse.
They are currently working on the Cherishing Children Christmas Sponsorship program now until end of November, for more information on how to help contact Lindsasy@cacbentonco.com.
