2019 Outstanding Civic Leader Honoree Announced

OCLE Invitation

The Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the 2019 Outstanding Civic Leader as Chamber President/CEO Wayne Mays. Wayne has been a member and president of the Chamber of Commerce for thirteen years this November. Wayne has set an incredible example to many leaders in the community over the years and The Chamber is proud to recognize his dedication and service to Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

Wayne and his wife, Barbara, moved to Siloam Springs in 2007 with the intent of “getting immersed in the community” while taking on the job of being the President of the Chamber of Commerce. Wayne has been a member of the Rotary Club for over 40 years, but has been a strong leader in the Siloam Springs chapter. The Siloam Springs Rotary Club works to serve children and families in Siloam Springs by providing families with food around holidays and donating dictionaries and books to local elementary schools. Wayne is also a longtime member of American Legion Post 29.

Wayne has participated in weekly pick-up basketball for many years at the Walton Lifetime Health Complex where he has made many friends young and old. Wayne refers to himself as “the old guy who brings the American Flag lawn chair every week to sit on in between games, because its just too difficult to sit all the way down on that floor and get back up again”.

When asked what inspires and motivates him to serve his community the most he said “I always pay attention to two people in my life- my wife and God”. Wayne spent many years living away from Siloam Springs, but visiting to attend the annual banquet. Wayne and his wife were able to observe from the outside and always admired Siloam Springs from afar. Wayne has developed a passion for Siloam Springs and the Chamber of Commerce, because of the work he has put into the community and the changes he has been able to witness. Wayne has been an amazing leader in the community of Siloam Springs and deserves to be celebrated.

Come celebrate Wayne Mays on October 3rd at 6pm at Simmons Great Hall, located on John Brown University campus. You can purchase tickets and find more information about the event at www.siloamchamber.com/events.
